Details Regarding the Senior PGA
The Senior PGA is a popular tournament with professional golfers. This tournament allows players to compete in a professional championship against other players and win great prizes. You should know a few essential details before you take your shot at the Senior PGA tournament. These are the schedule, venues, prize money, and leaderboard.
Professional Championship
The Senior PGA Professional Championship, hosted at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, is the premier senior golf tournament in the country. This year’s competition features a $300,000 purse. The top eight finishers automatically qualify for the 2023 PGA Tour Champions qualifying school.
It’s a good thing the competition is stiff since there are only 264 players on the field. You must be a PGA member to play in the PGA Professional Championship. You can only have played up to ten professional tours in 12 months. Fortunately, the PGA of America has a program that allows qualifying players to receive free tee time at several local courses. Those courses are PGA Golf Club, Twin Warriors, and Santa Ana.
Venues
The Senior PGA Championship is a major senior tournament in men’s professional golf that attracts the best players in the world. Each year, the event is held at a different location.
It is organized by the PGA of America, the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. Historically, the Championship has been played as four rounds of 18 holes. However, for thirteen editions, it has been reduced to a 36-hole format.
The oldest of five major championships in senior golf, the Senior PGA is held the week after the US PGA Championship. It was first held in 1937. A total of eight players won the event.
The event’s winner is awarded a significant title on the Champions Tour. The top 15 finishers in the European Senior Tour qualify for the Senior PGA.
Schedule
The Senior PGA is an annual golf event held in May. Unlike the PGA Tour, this event is not limited to members of the storied PGA. Many professional golfers compete in several individual tournaments in hopes of winning big prizes. Typically, the top dogs will play a few extra rounds, which is not only a great way to shave a few strokes off their handicaps but also increases the odds of a player earning the title of champion.
The best part about attending the Senior PGA is meeting and hanging out with some of the game’s greatest golfers. In addition to playing golf, fans can follow the many festivities and activities before and after the competition takes the green.
Prize Money
The Senior Open Championship is a professional golf tournament played by players over the age of fifty. This competition is a significant event on the PGA Tour and is run by the PGA of America. There are over 144 participants in the field, and only the top 70 advance to the final round for the prize money.
The 2022 Senior PGA Championship will be held at Harbor Shores Resort in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Prize money will be distributed to the winning golfer, first runner-up, and a select few of the top 4 caddies.
The prize for the winning golfer is the largest of the tournament’s many offerings. First place will take home a whopping $432,080. However, the award for the runner-up is more modest. Second place gets $147,450.
Leaderboard
The Senior PGA leaderboard is up and running in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. This season the tour has four titles and is headed by Steven Alker. He opened with a 69. His second-round 68 was another shot off the pace.
Padraig Harrington is the early-season favorite. But if he wins the tournament, he will become the season champion and collect the Cup. Currently, Harrington is 12 under after 36 holes. If he finishes outside the top five, he’ll need to win a playoff to win the Cup.
Two of the Champions Tour’s biggest names, Paul Goodeados and Stephen Ames, are also in the mix. Goodreads has two PGA Tour wins, while Ames is playing in his first major championship on the PGA Tour.
